Though the land of Ecuador is commonly identified by the Galapagos Islands, the major part of the country is not visited even today. However the mainland of the country has become one of the major tourist destinations offering immense popularity during the past few years.

The most impressing fact about Ecuador is the series of volcanoes which exist across 325 kilometres. These massive volcanoes are covered with snow and are a perfect contrast to that of the tropical green environment of Ecuador. The most commonly known peaks of volcano in the region are the Cotopaxi and the Chimborazo.

Cotopaxi is the most commonly climbed peak of Ecuador. With a height of 5,897 meters Cotopaxi is claimed to be the highest among the active volcanoes existing on Earth. The top comprises of a crater which is encrusted with glacier. Climbers climbing Cotopaxi find the crater to be a reward after the hard climb along the volcano.

On the other hand Chimborazo is at a height of 6,526 meters and was once known to be the world’s highest peak. Chimborazo exists close to the Earth’s equator and thus when measured from the core of the earth, it is found to the highest mount above sea level. Ecuador is perfect for mountain climbers as the volcanoes offer the most challenging mount climbing experience to them.

Besides numerous volcanoes, Ecuador offers many impressive places that are popular to the tourists to visit. The capital of Ecuador is Quito. Quito is known to be not only the highest capital but also as the most popular centre of colonial existence. Otovalo is another place that is known to offer a famous Indian market.

The trip to the Cajas Natural Park is worth visiting with its stunning natural beauty. The place is a home to a huge variety of unique wildlife comprising of deer, weasels, wild horses, gazelles and the paramo wolves. The Galapagos Islands fetch enormous foreign tourists to visit Ecuador every year. The islands are known to offer the best holiday cruise destination of all times. The physical features along with the geographical extent are the key to the consistent popularity of Ecuador.
